About PayslipIQ UAE
Free calculators and plain-English guides for British people moving to, working in, or leaving the United Arab Emirates. Written by a named person who is accountable for every figure on the site.
Written and reviewed by Rocco Clayfield, Founder and Editor ยท Last reviewed: 29 August 2026
Who runs PayslipIQ UAE? Rocco Clayfield, Founder and Editor. He is the author and reviewer of every report, guide and calculator here. His full author profile is on the UK site at payslipiq.co.uk/authors/rocco-clayfield, and the two profiles link to each other so it is clear they are the same person. The publisher is GoldPaid Ltd, company 17382540. We are an educational publisher, not a regulated adviser, and we say plainly what we can and cannot tell you.
One named person, not a faceless brand
Rocco Clayfield is named on the site because someone should be. If a number here is wrong, there is a person to answer for it and a route to reach him.
Primary sources, shown openly
Every figure traces back to a published source we name: the UAE Labour Law, MoHRE, the Federal Tax Authority, the DIFC, HMRC, GOV.UK and the House of Commons Library.

Data protection. Registration ZC214216 with the Information Commissioner’s Office is held in the name of an individual, not by GoldPaid Ltd, and it sits on the ICO’s own public register rather than at Companies House. Nothing on this site should be read as a claim that GoldPaid Ltd holds an ICO registration of its own. GoldPaid Ltd is the controller for this site and answers for it. Whether the company also needs a registration and fee in its own name under the Data Protection (Charges and Information) Regulations 2018 is with a solicitor and is not yet settled, and we would rather say so than leave the impression that it is; what we do with your data is set out in the privacy notice.
Who this site is for
PayslipIQ UAE is written for British expats. That means three groups in particular.
- People weighing a Dubai or Abu Dhabi offer against a job they already have in the UK, and trying to work out whether tax-free really means better off.
- People already working in the Emirates who want to check the gratuity they are building up before they hand in their notice.
- Families running the full sum, including rent, school fees and flights home, before they commit to the move.
If you want a number you can understand, and an honest list of what still needs professional sign-off, the site is built for you. If you need advice you can act on, you need a qualified adviser, and we say so on every page.
Why PayslipIQ UAE exists
There is one specific problem at the heart of this site. UAE end-of-service gratuity is calculated on basic salary only. Housing, transport and other allowances are excluded. Most UAE contracts split the package so that basic pay is a small fraction of the headline figure, often half or less. That split is legal and normal. It also quietly shrinks the payout you walk away with, sometimes by tens of thousands of dirhams over a few years.
Almost nobody explains this before you sign. The offer letter shows a large total package. The gratuity clause sits further down and refers to basic salary. The two numbers are rarely put side by side. By the time the difference matters, you have already signed.
PayslipIQ UAE puts them side by side. The UAE gratuity calculator works out what you are owed at the end of service. The take-home and gratuity calculator shows what your basic salary actually earns you year by year. The offer decoder reads the structure of a package. The UK-vs-UAE comparison weighs the tax saving against the cost of living. All of it is free, and the maths runs in your browser rather than on our servers.
Who is behind it
Rocco Clayfield is the founder and editor of PayslipIQ. He is also the author of every report, guide and news item published here, and the reviewer who signs off each figure before it goes live.
What that means in practice is set out on the author page, but the short version is this. He decides which primary sources the site relies on. He decides the methodology behind each calculator. He sets the review cadence and carries it out. When a reader reports an error, it reaches him, and the correction is his responsibility.
We do not publish credentials, memberships or a career history for him, because we only publish claims we can evidence. The site's How We Work page commits to no fake anything, and that applies to the people behind it as much as to the numbers.
How the figures are produced
Nothing on this site is estimated by feel. Each calculator applies a published rule to the numbers you enter, and each rule is traceable to a named source.
The primary sources we use
These are the same sources listed on How We Work, and we use them consistently across every page.
- UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, the Labour Law itself, for the gratuity formula, qualifying service and settlement deadlines.
- MoHRE, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, together with the official u.ae portal, for end-of-service benefits and private-sector labour rules.
- The DIFC, for the DEWS workplace savings scheme that replaces standard gratuity inside the centre.
- The UAE Federal Tax Authority, for VAT and corporate tax rates and thresholds.
- HMRC and GOV.UK, for UK income tax, National Insurance, the Statutory Residence Test, split-year treatment, the P85, voluntary NI, the Non-Resident Landlord Scheme and non-resident capital gains tax.
- The House of Commons Library, for its annual summary of UK direct tax rates and allowances, which we use to cross-check the HMRC figures.
We cite the source, not somebody else's summary of it. If a page states a rate, that rate came from one of the bodies above.
How often the figures are reviewed
Rocco reviews the rates and rules at the start of each UK tax year in April, and again whenever the UAE authorities or the Federal Tax Authority publish a material change. The indicative exchange rate is re-checked periodically, and we label it indicative every time we use it, because it is a snapshot for orientation and not a dealing rate.
Pages carry the tax year the figures relate to. Guides carry a last reviewed date. If a page has not been touched in a while, that date will tell you.
What happens when a rate changes
When a rate, threshold or rule changes, the calculator logic is updated first, then every page that quotes the old figure, then the last reviewed date. Where a change alters the answer people were previously given, we say what changed rather than editing quietly.
Corrections policy
We would rather fix our maths than defend it. If you think a figure here is wrong, tell us and we will check it. Every correction we have published is listed with its date in the corrections log, including the ones that made us look bad.
- Report it on WhatsApp or by email to hello@payslipiq.co.uk. Tell us the page and the figure you think is wrong.
- Rocco reviews every report personally and checks it against the primary source.
- If we are wrong, we correct the page. Where the error would have changed someone's answer, we note what was corrected and when, rather than making the change silently.
- If we are not wrong, we will explain the working so you can see why the number is what it is.
- If your employer, HMRC or a UAE authority tells you something different from our page, treat their figure as correct and ask us to explain the difference.
What PayslipIQ UAE is not
This matters more than anything we claim to be.
- We are not a regulated financial adviser. Nothing here is financial advice and we are not authorised to give it.
- We are not a tax agent. We do not file returns, act for you before HMRC or the Federal Tax Authority, or take responsibility for a tax position.
- We are not an immigration adviser. We do not advise on visas, residency permits or sponsorship.
- We are not a law firm, an accountancy practice, a payroll bureau or a recruitment agency.
- We are not a government body or an official portal. We cite UAE and UK government sources, but we are not affiliated with any of them.
For a number you can act on, before you sign a contract, resign, file a return or commit a deposit, get it confirmed by a UK-qualified accountant or a qualified UAE legal or tax adviser.
How does the site make money?
It does not. PayslipIQ UAE earns nothing. No adverts, no sponsored placements, no affiliate links, no referral fees, no paid rankings and no charge for any calculator.
There is no payment page on this site and no commercial outbound link on any of its fourteen pages. Nobody pays us to change a number, because nobody pays us at all. It is also the honest reason the site can be blunt about what a package is worth: there is no commercial pressure on the arithmetic.
We intend to earn from this eventually, and we have not started. When income does arrive it will be one of two things: a paid product we build ourselves, or a disclosed commercial arrangement. Either way we will say so here and on How We Work before it begins, name the other party, and disclose it on every page it touches. We will not start earning quietly, and no arrangement will change a figure.
Checked 28 August 2026 across the source of all fourteen pages: no payment provider, no affiliate parameter, no sponsored link, no advertising code.
The wider PayslipIQ network
PayslipIQ UAE is the British-expat corner of a small network of payslip and pay-transparency sites run by the same founder.
- payslipiq.co.uk covers UK payslips, tax codes and National Insurance for people working in the United Kingdom.
- payslipiq.com covers United States paychecks.
- payslip-australia.vercel.app covers Australian payslips, and payslip-canada.vercel.app covers Canadian pay stubs. All four were live when we last checked them on 27 August 2026.
- This site, PayslipIQ UAE, covers UAE packages, end-of-service gratuity and the UK tax rules that follow you abroad.
Same owner, same editorial standard, different jurisdiction. Figures are not shared between sites: each one applies the rules of the country it covers.
